Proven impactWhat we do
Open Notes Labs tests and evaluates new initiatives in partnership with clinicians, patients, and developers. We guide innovations in clinical documentation, medical records, and patient engagement.
Prior to the enactment of the U.S. 21st Century Cures Act information blocking rule of 2021, Open Notes Labs helped lead a movement that showed patients, care partners, and clinicians benefit from more transparent communication.
Open Notes Labs has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and commentaries focused on understanding the effects of transparency in healthcare. We have turned our wide-ranging body of research into practical, educational tools for both patients and clinicians.
Insight panelHealthcare innovation, guided by patient and clinician insights
To ensure our projects reflect diverse perspectives and meet real-world needs, a dynamic team of patients, care partners, and clinicians play a key role in Open Notes Labs projects.
-
The Open Notes Labs Insight Panel brings together patients, care partners, and practicing clinicians to help shape the future of healthcare research and technology. Panelists share their perspectives to help Open Notes Labs evaluate emerging technologies and co-design research studies—from developing questions and methods to implementation and dissemination. Their input helps ensure that research reflects the needs of the people most affected by it.
-
The Insight Panel includes individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, including differences in race, age, gender, disability status, chronic illness experience, language, geography, education, and healthcare expertise. Panelists are thoughtful collaborators who bring empathy, curiosity, respect for different viewpoints, and a commitment to improving healthcare through constructive participation. At this time, the Insight Panel is limited to US-based participants.
-
Panelists choose projects that match their interests and availability. No special training is required, but participants should be willing to share their experiences and engage with diverse perspectives. The Insight Panel is supported through government and foundation grants, as well as industry partnerships.
Open Notes Labs is not currently recruiting new panelists. Join our email list to learn about future opportunities.
